Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero is the Best Tribute to Akira Toriyama’s Legacy We Ever Could Have Hoped For

After returning home from school, I found company on my television set. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles gave me some adrenaline rush, but Dragon Ball Z was the real stuff for me. I even tried using Kamehameha Wave on my friends, but it only made them laugh.

At the time, I wasn’t really aware of the creator of this series. Akira Toriyama saved the day for me, despite me being unknown of his existence at the time. Of course, I did thank him when I came to know about his creative prowess. Now, he may be gone, but his legacy lives on.

It Might Not be Over But it is Essentially Over Without the Dragon Ball Creator

Toriyama went to a high school where students are nurtured for their creativity and not how impeccably they can remember what’s in the accounts book.

Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama probably did better than those who landed a respectable job in the corporate world. After all, he ended up nurturing multiple generations.

He wanted to have fun with his work, and he did. Now we have fun watching Goku beat the pulp out of his enemies, Master Roshi going in style, and Beerus watching after Bulla and fighters went on their way to stop the threat that appeared in the form of Legendary Super Saiyan Broly.

It was a shocker when the news came: the Dragon Ball creator has passed away. Fans certainly wish they could collect those Dragon Balls and ask Shenron to bring him back. He might be happy watching all of us enjoying what he left for us.

October 2024 will be an emotional ride as the video game Sparking Zero and anime-exclusive DAIMA are due for the month. But it’s the former I am looking forward to more. It is the perfect tribute to the legend who saved my and countless other kids’ childhoods.

No Other Game Can Give a Better Tribute to Him Like Sparking Zero Does

Akira Toriyama came to the spotlight with Dr. Slump.

Bandai Namco tricked us into thinking that Sparking Zero is coming up with a large roster of 164 characters. It not. It’s coming in with 181. That’s right! No other game has done it before; I don’t think any other video game in the future will beat that. It’s bringing everyone in it, well, almost.

From Kid Goku we remember from back in the day to the one in the upcoming DAIMA, Spike Chunsoft has got it all covered. Unlike Ubisoft titles, pre-ordering this actually makes a bit of sense. And who knows, there will be more if there is any downloadable content planned.

It doesn’t simply mimic the appearance of the characters, but everything resonating their personalities. Whether it is Goku warming up to enter a clash against Broly or Gogeta’s hand gestures from the movie there’s everything. They even got Goku SSJ3 grab for Majin Buu right.

Yes, it includes some what-if scenarios causing a different outcome in the narratives, but it does justice to what its creator envisioned. For that matter, it will offer the fans to live the experience they witnessed either in manga or the anime from a different perspective.

For me, there’s no better tribute to Toriyama’s legacy. Maybe there will be bigger Dragon Ball game in future, but the time just won’t be right. I am glad the team decided to bring it into fruition in the same year he departed. October 2024 is going to be bittersweet for sure.

I believe in Toyotarou. I believe he will do justice to whatever story is left of Dragon Ball Super. But the fact that it won’t be Toriyama’s work may put fans off from watching it. Just like the Emily Strong standing where Chester Bennington stood situation.

Now, I will wait for Bandai Namco to release the game on October 11, 2024. That will be it for me. Sparking Zero will at least give us a chance to see his vision just one more time.
