The Summer Hikaru Died season 2 has been greenlit, and the news comes just after season 1 has been wrapped up. While a concrete release date has not been revealed yet, a new video and visual have been released. Season 2 is currently in production.

In the season 2 announcement video, Tanaka can be seen walking towards Hikaru and Yoshiki, quietly accompanying them. This scene was also included in the finale of season 1.

Episode 13 of The Summer Hikaru Died will be released as part of season 2. The anime adaptation of the series was first announced in May 2024, and season 1 debuted in July 2025. There was a gap of a single year between the announcement and the anime’s release.

However, season 2 is bound to take longer because it will take time to animate the latest episodes. Given the anime’s popularity, The Summer Hikaru Died season 2 might be released sometime in 2026. It will probably be out by mid to late 2026.

With Netflix streaming season 1, there is a huge possibility that the streaming giant will release season 2 as well. Meanwhile, the visual for season 2 shows Hikaru and Yoshiki walking side by side on the beach. While Yoshiki’s side is lit up, Hikaru’s side is dark and brooding, perhaps reflecting on his dark and otherworldly nature.

The Summer Hikaru Died Season 2 Will Adapt the Manga’s Final Arc

The Summer Hikaru Died season 1 covered the first two arcs of the manga, namely The Daily Life arc and the Mystery Solving Arc. A total of 26 chapters have been animated into 12 episodes. The Summer Hikaru Died season 2 will begin adapting the third and final arc of the manga, The Hold Closing Arc.

In this arc, Tanaka will clarify what Hikaru actually is. He isn’t someone who can be strictly called Nonuki-sama. Instead, he is actually an otherworldly being, who has slid into this side of the world. Tanaka will also reveal that there are holes opening up between the worlds, which is actually how the impurities are entering, and now it’s on Hikaru and Yoshiki to close these holes.

Kurebayashi and Maki will help Hikaru and Yoshiki on their quest in Ashidori so that impurities can be barred from entering the village. On the other hand, Asako and Tanaka will work together at Udekari towards attaining the same goal.
