Why Demon Slayer Infinity Castle’s Box Office Projections Have Shockingly Doubled

In a surprise, the box office projections for Demon Slayer Infinity Castle have surged in just a week. The film, also known as Demon Slayer Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle, was only expected to bring in somewhere between $17 million to $25 million in its opening weekend, but a new report has sharply adjusted this prediction in light of the movie’s incredibly high hype. Fans who have been tracking the animated film know that it has been breaking records left and right in Japan, and more than ever, it’s expected to do much the same in the US.

How much is Demon Slayer Infinity Castle expected to make at the box office now?

The latest box office predictions for Demon Slayer Infinity Castle have it earning $42 million (more specifically, in the range of $38 million to $56 million) in its opening weekend. Over its full run in US and Canada theaters, it is expected to make $65 million, or somewhere between $57 million and $109 million.

These accelerated figures are based on an August 22 analysis from BoxOfficeTheory, which was impressed by the film’s pre-sale numbers. Indeed, on August 18 Fandango announced that Demon Slayer Infinity Castle became its best first-day ticket pre-seller of all time for an anime movie, above even Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (2022) and Demon Slayer Mugen Train (2021). Jerramy Hainline, the executive VP of Fandango, said that he was “blown away” by the sheer excitement of movie’s fans.

For context, Demon Slayer Infinity Castle’s box office projections are the highest of any film in the next six weeks. The closest is The Conjuring: Last Rites, which is expected to make $32-$39 million in its opening weekend and up to $72.5 million overall.

The report believes that the movie will have “sharp front-loading” from fans, meaning that it may not have much sustained viewership in theaters after its debut. That said, it’s still a few weeks before the film releases nationwide on September 12 (or September 9 in early access), so it’s possible that the current $38-52 million projection will only increase further as we get closer to its release date.

In the meantime, don’t forget the two popcorn buckets and rare collectible cards for the film that’s only available in theaters.
