Strongest Anime Characters of All Time, Ranked

With decades of narrative and worldbuilding, we have some of the strongest anime characters, adapted straight from the black-and-white manga pages or dedicated light novel series. While some of these characters have trained and grown as individuals, others were handed out powers that can easily rival those of the gods. We know you are wondering who these characters are, right now.

To save you the trouble, we scoured the anime-verse for you and compiled a list of anime characters who can truly be called “the strongest”. From the pirate adventures of One Piece to the intergalactic action of Dragon Ball, here are the strongest anime characters, ranked based on their powers.

20. Eren Yeager

Eren Yeager from Attack on Titan | Credits: MAPPA

Eren Yeager was the ultimate Titan power that Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan series had to offer. While his role as the series’ protagonist still hangs in the balance, with the forever divide between good and evil, he was undoubtedly the strongest Titan in the series, at least by the end of the story.

Additionally, while he himself is powerful with the Founding Titan’s powers, wait till he starts commanding his army of Colossal Titans and starts a Rumbling. While god-like entities may survive the brutal stampede, others may not fare so well.

19. Alucard

Alucard from Hellsing | Credits: Madhouse

Alucard from the Hellsing anime series is one of the most broken vampire characters ever written. He is one of the very few truly immortal characters in this entire list, with attributes like regenerating from almost any damage, and millions of absorbed souls inside him acting like extra lives. To top that, he can literally transform into monsters, shadows, bats, and even an army of undead.

If you think this is broken enough to justify his position in this list, the series takes it up a notch by the end of Hellsing Ultimate. Alucard gains Schrödinger’s power, which makes him omnipresent, and as long as he recognizes his own existence, he cannot truly die. How can you kill someone who cannot die unless he wants to?

18. Satoru Gojo

Satoru Gojo from Jujutsu Kaisen | Credits: MAPPA

When it comes to the Jujutsu Kaisen narrative, there is hardly any other sorcerer who comes close to the power level and likes of Satoru Gojo. Even several characters in the series admitted that Satoru is essentially the “strongest” to have ever existed, thanks to his Six Eyes and Limitless combo powers.

Not only was his “strongest sorcerer” perception repeated throughout the narrative, but instances like his fights against Choso, Jogo, Hanami, and Toji Fushiguro prove the point. Nevertheless, he was truly a powerhouse in the series and remains one of the most feared names among his enemies who have survived to this day. Once someone enters his Domain Expansion, Unlimited Void, it’s basically game over.

17. Mob

Mob from Mob Psycho 100 | Credits: Studio Bones

When it comes to psychics in anime, Shigeo Kageyama (Mob) from Mob Psycho 100 sits at the very top of that category. Mob has a plethora of psychic abilities like telekinesis, energy blasts, flight, spirit exorcism, and force fields, making him a formidable opponent for anyone who faces him.

Furthermore, whenever Mob loses control, he attains a mysterious and probably his most powerful form. In this form, he can warp environments, destroy powerful spirits instantly, and overwhelm almost any psychic opponent – this makes him a complete mental powerhouse.

16. Monkey D. Luffy

Monkey D. Luffy from One Piece | Credits: Toei Animation

Luffy was just an average kid from One Piece who had the wildest ambition of becoming the next King of Pirates, and destiny seemed to have been on his side. Laced with the Gomu Gomu no Mi’s rubber body powers, he began his journey to reach the ultimate goal, facing many formidable enemies.

What makes him one of the strongest is his Devil Fruit’s hidden identity, which literally makes him a god – the Sun God Nika. Furthermore, he also has Haki in his arsenal, which is one of the strongest power devices in the series, including the rare and absurdly powerful Conqueror’s Haki. Luffy’s Conqueror’s Haki will likely stop other characters like Mob and Eren on their tracks.

15. Kaguya Otsutsuki

Kaguya Otsutsuki from Naruto: Shippuden | Credits: Studio Pierrot

This is basically entering the god-territory of anime characters, and who better to start than the final boss of the Naruto: Shippuden series, Kaguya Otsutsuki. While many of us thought Madara Uchiha was going to be the final boss, Kaguya appeared out of nowhere with her own bundle of cosmic-level threats for the protagonist and his buddies.

Imbued by the God Tree’s Chakra Fruit, Kaguya was the first ever Chakra user in the Naruto-verse. In terms of powers, she can create and control multiple dimensions and even erase matter and cancel ninjutsu using the Truth-Seeking Orbs. Oh, and she is also immortal and can only be sealed, and not killed. Even Naruto had to seal her instead of killing her, with help from Sasuke and Sakura.

14. Meliodas

Meliodas from The Seven Deadly Sins | Credits: A-1 Pictures

The main protagonist and the Dragon Sin of Wrath from The Seven Deadly Sins anime series, Meliodas, is one of the strongest anime characters in the animanga-verse. Being the son of the Demon King, Meliodas has incredible combat abilities, superhuman speed, immortality using the Curse of Resurrection, and dark demon magic.

While his signature move, Full Counter, is already a menace for his opponents, at his peak, Meliodas unlocks the Demon King Form, which grants him the powers of the Demon King. In this form, he gains immense dark energy, reality-distorting demon power, and control over the demon realm.

13. Naruto Uzumaki

While many might argue that Naruto was given a cheat-code power with Kurama’s Chakra to start with, it is noteworthy that not only did he not have access to it, but also struggled continuously to withhold it. Furthermore, the entire village was also against him and neglected him as if he were a curse for existing.

But he didn’t give up, and through pure hard work and rigorous training, and reconciliation with Kurama, he finally gained everything he ever wanted – a family, friends, and his goal of becoming the Hokage. Not only was he a Hokage, but he was one of the strongest at that, especially the brute strength displayed by his Baryon Mode.

12. Ichigo Kurosaki

Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach | Credits: Studio Pierrot

The Substitute Soul Reaper from the Bleach anime series, Ichigo Kurosaki, has a story of constantly falling and getting back up. While his bloodline power boost later came into play, he had to work hard and push through limits to defeat even the easiest of opponents at the beginning of the story.

Ichigo is single-handedly one of the strongest Bleach characters in the series currently, being able to hone powers from both the Quincy and the Shinigami. Additionally, he also mastered Hollowfication, which aids in creating his strongest form in the series ever, the Horn of Salvation form.

11. Yhwach

Yhwach from Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War | Credits: Studio Pierrot

The main overarching antagonist of the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War Arc, Yhwach, is also referred to as the Quincy King. When it comes to broken abilities, Yhwach’s The Almighty is probably high up there. It literally allows him to see all the possible futures and interpret them, rewriting them completely.

To lay it out in simple words: if Yhwach sees a future where he loses, he rewrites it so he wins. Additionally, Almighty is just his signature move; his arsenal is filled with other abilities like Power Absorption and Schrift Distribution that justify his position in this list. Yhwach’s Almighty could destroy characters like Mob, Naruto, and others

10. Saitama

Saitama from One Punch Man | Credits: Madhouse

When it comes to powerscaling in the world of anime, the One Punch Man series literally breaks every rule possible and presents us with one of the most broken and comedic powerhouses, Saitama. Just one punch – that’s literally what it takes for him to deal with galaxy-level threats.

Furthermore, the comedic and strength-absurdity does not stop there. If for any reason someone manages to surpass him in power, he catches up in a jiffy and overwhelms them, as he did with Cosmic Garou in the manga chapters. Saitama’s overwhelming strength, albeit adding comedic relief to the series at times, is nevertheless a serious strength and a prime testament of power in the shonen anime genre.

9. Son Goku

A list of the strongest anime characters is always going to be incomplete without the main protagonist of Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball series, Son Goku. Goku always had a craving to fight and become the strongest from day one, and boy, did he keep leveling up in the process to fight stronger opponents.

Coursing through many Saiyan forms, Goku eventually encountered forms like Ultra Instinct and Super Saiyan God – yes, God! Not only does he create a new power ceiling in Dragon Ball with his constant growth, but he also defeats galactic powerhouses like Jiren and Moro. While the battles are made tough for anticipation, we all know Goku wins in the end at the back of our minds.

8. Anos Voldigoad

Anos from The Misfits of Demon King Academy | Credits: Silver Link

As the reincarnation of the Demon King of Tyranny, who ruled 2000 years before the story begins, Anos Voldigoad from The Misfits of Demon King Academy is one of the most overpowered and broken anime characters. He is so powerful that a simple stare can destroy objects or beings instantly, breaking magic barriers.

To add to the absurdity of his broken powers, even if Anos dies, he can revive himself instantly. Furthermore, one time in the anime series, Anos simply killed an enemy with the sound of his heartbeat, and then continued to revive and fight him. Saitama probably can’t even approach Anos to land his punch.

7. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

All the mecha-anime fans will surely know about this, but then again, let us give you a brief introduction. The Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is the ultimate form of the mecha from the anime series, and is often considered one of the most powerful entities ever shown in anime.

What makes it so absurdly powerful is its sheer size and all the cosmic feats in the series. Becoming larger than galaxies, the Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann is universe-level in size and is shown to use galaxies as throwing weapons. Not only is the mecha strong, but it is absurdly powerful to the level where cosmic theory even stops making sense.

6. Shinra (Banshoman)

Shinra from Fire Force | Credits: David Production

Shinra Kusakabe, the main protagonist of the Fire Force anime series, is not just another recruit, but an extremely strong third-generation pyrokinetic who can ignite flames from his feet, earning him the nickname “Devil’s Footprints”. While his kicks are powerful and fiery, literally, using the Adolla Burst, he gains access to higher-level fire abilities and abilities linked to time and reality.

While those are strong moves, he transcends to another form, which is probably the most powerful in Fire Force, the Banshoman, becoming a god-like being. It is the combination of him, Sho Kusakabe, and Mari Kusakabe in the Adolla. In this form, he can manipulate reality, control life and death, and even create and reconstruct the universe. One kick and even the mighty Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann mecha will fall tumbling down.

5. Madoka Kaname

Ultimate Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka Magica | Credits: Studio Shaft

Near the end of the Puella Magi Madoka Magica anime series, Madoka Kaname transcends to her final form, known as Ultimate Madoka or Madokami, in Episode 12. After erasing all witches across all timelines before they are born, she became a conceptual entity rather than a physical being.

As a cosmic entity representing the “Law of Cycles,” she embodies a wish that transcends time and space. By the end of the series, she becomes a god-like entity who exists everywhere and everywhen. She is the goddess of the new world created at the end of the original series and appears in Rebellion and Magica Records. Shinra creates a new world, but Ultimate Madoka likely writes how it functions.

4. Anti-Spiral

Anti-Spiral from Gurren Lagann | Credits: Gainax

The main antagonist of the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime series, Anti-Spiral, is one of the strongest cosmic entities in the world of anime and manga. The Anti-Spiral is not a single person, but a collective mind of an ancient alien race whose goal is to stop humans from evolving too much, because unlimited evolution could destroy the universe.

In battle, the Anti-Spiral can literally alter reality and physics – changing space itself, warping dimensions, and creating pocket universes. Furthermore, one of its strongest abilities, the Multidimensional Labyrinth, can imprison enemies in infinite illusion worlds and break their will to resist.

3. Rimuru Tempest

When it comes to the Isekai genre, not many anime characters can measure upto the power level of Rimuru Tempest from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. Even if he doesn’t come off as scary from the start, his ultimate skills, Raphael and Ciel, are on another level.

Raphael is an advanced AI-like skill that lets Rimuru analyze enemies instantly and create new abilities. Later on, it evolves into Ciel, which is an even stronger intelligence skill. Eventually, Rimuru becomes a True Dragon-level being, comparable to the strongest entities in his universe. Even if Anti-Matter creates a new dimension, Rimuru might learn and create one of his own.

2. Featherine Augustus Aurora

Featherine Augustus Aurora from Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou | Credits: Studio Passione

Known as the “Witch of Theatergoing, Drama, and Spectating”, Featherine Augustus Aurora from Higurashi: When They Cry is basically an author within the story. She views the entire world as fiction or a game board, while existing outside the normal universe hierarchy. While Featherine Augustus Aurora is primarily the antagonist from Umineko: When They Cry, she appears in Higurashi: When They Cry – Gou under the name Eua. Both series are part of the same When They Cry franchise.

When it comes to the specifications of her absurd powers, she can literally rewrite events, change battle outcomes, create or destroy entire narratives, and observe countless timelines simultaneously. If we go by a comical analogy, she is basically the mangaka of the series if they were in the story themselves.

1. Zeno

Zeno from Dragon Ball | Credits: Toei Animation

Many viewers can easily get tricked by his goofy and happy-go-lucky personality, but Zeno is one of the most powerful beings in the universe, especially in the Dragon Ball universe. In the hierarchy, Zeno sits at the very top, followed by Grand Priest, Angels, and Gods of Destruction in chronological order.

Zeno’s most famous power is complete erasure – he can literally erase any person, planet, universe, and even timelines. For instance, during the Future Trunks Saga, Zeno erased an entire corrupted timeline caused by Zamasu. He even erased 6 universes before the series even began. No matter how many universes and dimensions other characters create and rewrite, all are wiped away with one snap of Zeno’s fingers.
